چکیده

The Cauchy problem for parabolic equations with quadratic nonlin-earity is studied. We investigate the existence of global-in-time solutions and their large-time behavior assuming some scaling property of the equation as well as of the norm of the Banach space in which the solutions are constructed. Some applications of these abstract results are indicated.

Topological and "–entropy for Large Volume Limits of Discretised Parabolic Equations

We consider semi-discrete and fully discrete approximations of nonlinear parabolic equations in the limit of unbounded domains, which by a scaling argument is equivalent to the limit of small viscosity. We define the spatial density of "–entropy, topological entropy and dimension for the attractors and show that these quantities are bounded. We also provide practical means of computing lower bo...

Hierarchical Chunking in Classifier Systems

Two standard schemes for learning in classifier systems have been proposed in the literature: the bucket brigade algorithm (BBA) and the profit sharing plan (PSP). The BBA is a local learning scheme which requires less memory and lower peak computation than the PSP, whereas the PSP is a global learning scheme which typically achieves a clearly better performance than the BBA. This “requirement ...

Decay of Solutions to Nonlinear Parabolic Equations: Renormalization and Rigorous Results

Scaling and renormalization group (RG) methods are used to study parabolic equations with a small nonlinear term and find the decay exponents. The determination of decay exponents is viewed as an asymptotically self similar process that facilitates an RG approach. These RG methods are extended to higher order in the small coefficient of the nonlinearity. The RG results are verified in some case...

Numerical and Experimental Analysis of Nonlinear Parabolic Springs Employed in Suspension System of freight cars

Nonlinear vibration of parabolic springs employed in suspension system of a freight car has been studied in this paper. First, dynamical behavior of the springs is investigated by using finite element method and the obtained results are then used in vibration analysis of a railway freight car. For this purpose, dynamics of a parabolic spring subjected to a cyclic excitation has been studied ...

Renormalizing Partial Diierential Equations

We explain how to apply Renormalization Group ideas to the analysis of the long-time asymptotics of solutions of partial diierential equations. We illustrate the method on several examples of nonlinear parabolic equations. We discuss many applications, including the stability of prooles and fronts in the Ginzburg-Landau equation, anomalous scaling laws in reaction-diiusion equations, and the sh...
